The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has appeared at a media conference, where he leveled accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama, accusing him of endangering Albania's future in the European Union.
According to him, information coming from European chancelleries and Brussels shows that Prime Minister Rama is "in a red circle" and that, contrary to the commitments made within the framework of the integration process, he is acting for personal interests and to protect himself from accusations of serious crimes.
Berisha stated that Rama is ready to make any decision, even if this, according to him, brings about the complete blockage of Albania's integration process into the European Union.
The chief democrat added that this issue is being discussed in European circles and chancelleries and that the scenario of a complete undoing of the EU integration process is not ruled out.
"Today I am here to denounce the major threat that Edi Rama and the dangerous mafia that stands behind him, in the government, parliament and other institutions, are threatening in the most savage way the most vital process of Albanians, the process of integration into the EU.
"The news coming from the European chancelleries, but also from Brussels, proves that Edi Rama is in a red circle. That Edi Rama, in flagrant contradiction with all the commitments that stem from the integration process, is proving that in the interests of his power, to protect himself from the serious crimes he has committed, he is capable of making any decision despite completely blocking the EU integration process," said Berisha.
