"Moscow should not use Kosovo to justify its dreams", Rama at the UN:

Prime Minister Edi Rama condemned the Russian aggression in Ukraine during his speech at the UN Security Council directed by our country.

Giving a longer speech than UN Secretary Mr. Guterres or Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Rama said that Russia has put the whole of Europe at risk. In his speech, he also focused on threats with nuclear weapons.

" President Zelensky, I am grateful for your presence here. Your strong words clearly convey togetherness and your determination encourages. While the world today needs more than ever for a calm sense of responsibility to face the multiple challenges facing our planet, conflicts, unconstitutional power grabs, floods and droughts, including massive unforeseeable fires, what we are currently witnessing are more and more divisive attitudes and increasing conflict between and within states.

Who could have imagined that in the third decade of the 21st century, a devastating war launched by a permanent member of this council would put Europe in danger, cruelly undermining all the principles that gave life to the UN.

An unjustified and unprovoked military aggression by a major country against a young democracy would not be immediately condemned by all the nations gathered here ," the prime minister said.

Rama said that so far 26 thousand civilians have been killed due to Russian aggression in Ukraine. According to him, the threat coming from Moscow with nuclear weapons should not be neglected. Meanwhile, he said that it is everyone's duty to help Ukraine.

"Given the unwarranted nuclear rumblings coming from various levels of the Kremlin, we are right to fear that one day this madness will turn into something worse. It is as unthinkable today as such a war was yesterday. We have a duty to help Ukraine. We may be different but the way they can support Ukraine in the war. We may have differences on how to support Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and dignity, different views on how this struggle will end. But it would be an insult to the intelligence of this organization if we do not accept a voice on who is the aggressor and the victim. The same fine distinction between war and peace as Tolstoy would remind you. If we do not accept this crystal truth, we are not only letting Ukraine down,", Rama said.

He said that the struggle of Ukraine belongs to everyone who aspires to live in a world where nations are free and the right to live in peace is indisputable. He said that Albania will continue to maintain its position.

" Albania is a small country, our support may not change the dynamics on the battlefield, but it contributes to not accepting the annexation and not letting what is clear turn into something suspicious ," Rama emphasized.

Rama further stated that Russia has tried to intervene in the Balkans, taking Kosovo as an example. Rama said that Kosovo's independence cannot serve as an example or justification for the seizure of territories by Russia.

"Let me show you the example of the Western Balkans, those who have seen the war as a way to achieve their objectives, have actually regretted it. Russia and others have tried to misuse the birth of the Republic of Kosovo, to justify the dreams of their neo-imperialism. The independence of Kosovo that has been sanctioned by the International Criminal Court, which cannot serve as a pretext for grabbing territories.

If peace in our region is tangible, it has to do with lessons learned from the past. By moving through cooperation rather than creating barriers. The Charter of the United Nations calls us to live in peace. Albania has made its choice, to stand up for peace, to stand by the side of the aggressor and not the aggressor, thank you ", said Rama.
