The deputy of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, has warned against the vote against the draft for increasing the salaries of the members of the Constitutional Court from 4 to 7 million old lek.
In a statement to the media, Bardhi said that Prime Minister Edi Rama's proposal comes as a clear bargain between the Constitutional Court and the government and has nothing to do with justice reform.
"Rama's proposal to increase the salaries of Constitutional Court judges comes as a clear bargain between the Constitutional Court and the government. For the first time, the Constitutional Court has accepted the role as a government agency. It has been addressed to the government for the salary increase, not to the parliament", said Bardhi.
He emphasized that anyone who deceives the public opinion by saying that the increase in the salaries of the members of the Constitutional Court would strengthen the independence of the Constitutional Court is hiding a criminal fact about its capture.
"The law presented in the Assembly and is up for vote tomorrow, will certainly receive the vote against the parliamentary opposition, because it cements the capture of the Constitutional Court by the government. Rama has sent a message to the justice system in the country that if he wants an increase in salaries, he will have to behave and perform like the Constitutional Court. There will have to be zero requests for the accepted investigation commissions of the opposition", said Bardhi.
Asked if there are MPs who have declared their vote in favor, he said: "I don't want to believe that there are opposition MPs who will give the message that Edi Rama will not have the constitutional court under his control. I don't want to believe that they will come to the session and say that Edi Rama is a good man who has increased the judges' salaries. This law has nothing to do with the Justice Reform, nor was it consulted with our strategic partners. It is about a pact between Rama and the court".
