The EP demands that the demands of the opposition for investigative commissions be accepted
Prime Minister Edi Rama received a strong blow from the European Parliament. Although he tries to show that he is doing well in the international arena, the prime minister's recent behavior has caused concern among his partners.
Today, the next meeting between Albania and the EU was held within the framework of the Stabilization Association, and in the end the European Parliament has approved a series of recommendations, giving a strong blow to the majority.
The EP demands that the demands of the opposition for investigative commissions be accepted. They also demand that there be no electoral reform without the opposition. EP calls for political dialogue as soon as possible.
" To include all voices from the opposition in the electoral reform process to ensure true representation. Investigative Commissions should be used to strengthen accountability and democratic governance in Albania. The European Parliament calls for a constructive and comprehensive political dialogue from all parties ", the EP emphasizes.
In the EP Resolution for Albania, the following main issues are mainly highlighted:
- There is a call for strong involvement of the Parliament to encourage the engagement of the opposition.
- The vital control and balancing function of the Parliament is emphasized, emphasizing the need for investigative commissions.
- It is evident that the new Law on parliamentary investigative commissions was approved without consensus.
-Requires the use of various oversight tools, including investigative commissions, to strengthen accountability and democratic governance in Albania.
-Deplores that despite the creation of the ad hoc committee for electoral reform in February 2022, no progress has been made either in adopting any text or in addressing the outstanding recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR and the Venice Commission.
- Emphasizes the main importance of including all voices from the opposition in the electoral reform process to ensure a truly representative and inclusive approach.
-Calls for a constructive and comprehensive political dialogue from all parties in fully addressing this issue before the next general elections, to strengthen Albania's democratic parliamentary culture and enable a smooth electoral process.
-Calls for the avoidance of political interference in the justice system, and to eliminate corporatism.
-Calls to ensure that judicial procedures and decisions are held according to consistent standards, without double standards.
- We emphasize the need for the immediate approval of the necessary changes in the laws of justice reform. These reforms are essential for an independent judiciary that adheres to international best practices, guaranteeing fairness, impartiality and efficiency.
-Within the Berlin Process, it emphasizes the importance of implementing the necessary reforms for the effective absorption of funds, thereby strengthening Albania's path towards European integration.
- Expresses concern that corruption is widespread in many areas of public and business life and preventive measures continue to have a limited impact.
- Requests Albanian institutions to intensify efforts to fight corruption, emphasizing the need for effective and continuous actions, especially in high-risk sectors.
-Welcomes the amendments to the specific law on the Role of the Assembly in the European Integration process, demanding that opportunities be offered to the opposition, to be fully involved in the European integration process.
- Emphasizes the need to protect journalists from legal and institutional obstacles.
-Requires actions to ensure a safe environment for journalists, supporting a free and fair media landscape, essential for strengthening democracy in Albania.
- Emphasizes the importance of preserving the protected environmental regions and sustainable tourism, advocating for development that balances economic growth with ecological preservation.
