The Prime Minister reacts with elation after Albania's inclusion in the "Peace Board"...
After successive blows, Edi Rama has finally received a positive message from across the Atlantic.
While there has been talk in the political corridors these days that Rama will go to Washington to account for the "McGonigal" dossier, the prime minister announced today that President Trump has made him part of the Peace Board, which was established to manage Gaza.
This decision has so exalted Rama that he wrote the entire post on social media in capital letters.
" Very honored by President Trump's personal invitation to represent Albania on the Peace Board, a new international organization conceived by him, where Albania is invited as a founding member, thus reaching another completely unimaginable peak internationally just a few years ago. I could not be more proud of Albania, for everything we have done in these years, turning it into a different Albania, dignified and respected worldwide as never before, and without question also for the level to which we have raised our strategic partnership relationship with the United States of America, being invited with a very special respect and appreciation by President Donald J. Trump, to become part of an international board created and chaired by him himself and to work together with him. Thank you, Mr. President. God bless Albania and the United States ", Rama writes.
But while Rama sells it as an assessment, there are suspicions that this could also be the hand of Tony Blair. The former British Prime Minister is among the main names on this board and he is also an advisor and friend of Edi Rama.
What is the "Peace Board"?
Today, the administration of US President Donald Trump has formalized the creation of the so-called “Peace Board” for Gaza, a new structure aimed at the interim administration and reconstruction of the territory after the war between Israel and Hamas. Among the founding members of the board are US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
According to the official statement, each board member will have responsibility for a portfolio considered critical to the stabilization of Gaza, although the concrete division of these roles has not yet been made public.
Tony Blair , a former prime minister of the United Kingdom, is the only founding member who is not a US citizen. Blair led Britain from 1997 to 2007 and was a key figure in the Iraq War, making his inclusion on the board questionable to some. After leaving office, he served as envoy to the international Quartet for the Middle East (the UN, EU, US and Russia) from 2007 to 2015. He has called Trump's plans for Gaza "the best chance to end two years of war, misery and suffering".
Marco Rubio , the US Secretary of State, will play a central role in the Trump administration’s foreign policy. Initially opposed to a ceasefire in Gaza, Rubio later hailed the October Israel-Hamas deal as the “best” and “only” plan. He has also criticized Israel’s attempts to annex the West Bank.
Steve Witkoff , the U.S. special envoy for the Middle East and a real estate tycoon, will be on the board. He has announced the launch of the second phase of Trump's Gaza plan, which includes the complete reconstruction and demilitarization of the territory, including the disarmament of Hamas. Witkoff has also been involved in diplomatic efforts for peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Jared Kushner , President Trump's son-in-law, has played a key role in the administration's foreign policy negotiations, including on the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Gaza conflicts. He has met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss key outstanding issues and has previously said that the economic potential of Gaza, especially the coast, could be enormous if the focus is on development.
Marc RoWan , billionaire and CEO of Apollo Global Management, and Ajay Banga, president of the World Bank and former CEO of Mastercard, are also on the board. Banga was nominated to lead the World Bank by former President Joe Biden in 2023.
The latest founding member is Robert Gabriel , the US national security adviser, who has collaborated with Trump since the 2016 presidential campaign.
The White House announced that Nickolay Mladenov , a former UN envoy for the Middle East, will be the board's representative in Gaza. He will oversee the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a body of 15 Palestinian technocrats tasked with the day-to-day management of the territory after the war. / Pamphlet
