Prime Minister Edi Rama has delivered his speech at the 'Bled' Forum in Slovenia, where he is together with the leaders of the Western Balkans. Rama gave a clear message to the EU where he emphasized that cooperation with the countries of the region should be even more practical, especially in economic support.
Rama emphasized that Albania continues to have, in addition to the will, a great desire for membership in Europe and a pro-American approach. He continued by saying that he hopes that in 20 years the EU has fulfilled the 'promise' for our country's membership in the union.
Rama also expressed that he does not believe that in 2030 we will be in the EU, as he added that the EU should be more supportive of the countries of the Western Balkans, and not just criticize.
"I don't believe that in 2030 we will be in the EU, but at least in some of the steps... that would be very good. As long as we are talking about the convergence with the EU, he should understand that the gap per capita of the EU, around this region and the Western Balkan states is like 170 or so euros... and more than 14 thousand euros for all of us. This must be understood and solved with concrete steps. These things should also be in the process, not just reforms and criticism, which are absolutely necessary, but support as much as I could, I'm not talking only financially, but also help in the common market. Everyone should bear in mind that what is happening all these years in these countries is that on the one hand we talked about projects that should be invested... on the other hand guess who is financing them, the Americans, the Chinese , the Arabs... that I know do not have AQUIE fulfilled. I have always known that working 50 years for free against the West, Enver Hoxha made us more pro-European and more pro-American than anyone else. It will take us another 50 years after the fall of communism until we are not consistently pro-European and pro-Western. We have another 20 years of Euro-optimism and I hope that by then you have fulfilled your promise Charles (addresses the President of the European Council)",Rama said.
