Electoral Reform, Gjiknuri: Prevent illegal party financing
Damian Gjiknuri

The Co-Chair of the Electoral Reform Commission, Damian Gjiknuri, stated that the drafting of the law on the financing of political parties constitutes a priority of the commission's work and is directly related to Albania's European integration process.

During a roundtable discussion held today on Electoral Reform, Gjiknuri underlined that the new legal framework must be built on principles of transparency and guarantee a balance between political forces. He stressed that the law should not burden small parties, while at the same time establishing clear mechanisms to prevent illegal financing, including those that may come from crime or foreign influences.

"Building a law with the parameters that time requires is an important objective of ours. An important issue, but we have slightly larger political measures that improve something that serves all political parties."

The law will not be guided by the principle that one force dominates the other, it will be proportional, with the best standards but also taking into account the social life and tradition of Albanian society. Without becoming a heavy burden for small political parties that may find it more difficult from the demands that may be made by this law.

"We need to find a balance that demonstrates transparency, control, independent auditing, and prevent phenomena that are illegal influences such as funding from unacceptable sources, whether from the criminal world or business interests linked to government or foreign powers," said Gjiknuri.
