"Leadership without vision!"/ Ervin Salianji: The DP protest is

Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji has stated that the protests organized by the DP, instead of politically damaging Prime Minister Edi Rama, are ending up favoring him.

Referring to the recent protest, where Molotov cocktails were thrown towards the former villa of dictator Enver Hoxha, now a cultural center, Salianji said that these actions produced a reaction from embassies, placing the Democratic Party in a difficult position.

" There are endless reasons to protest, but there is no leadership strategy. The government has morally failed, caught in a thousand scandals, but the narrative that the DP leadership has favors Rama, including strategic ambiguity. It is discussed that some Molotov cocktails were thrown into the cauldrons. The citizens' revolt is to be appreciated, but the direction is wrong ," said Salianji, invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV.

He emphasized that, in his opinion, if a symbolic message were to be given, the targets should be institutions directly related to government responsibilities, figuratively mentioning the Ministry of Infrastructure or the Ministry of Interior.

Salianji raised doubts that the current protests are more related to internal developments within the Democratic Party than to a strategy to overthrow the government. “I see that these are protests for April, not to overthrow Rama,” he said, referring to the internal elections of the DP expected to be held in April.

The Democratic MP also spoke about the internal situation of the party, admitting to a kind of "sluggishness" after successive losses. According to him, the movement he has undertaken together with another group within the DP has aimed to awaken the party, but he stressed that the Democratic base remains demotivated.

" These are neither violent nor peaceful protests, it's something in between. They don't appeal to the sentiment and sensitivity of citizens about corruption, but they also demotivate the militants. They throw fireworks and run away ," declared Salianji.

He added that creating constant expectations for the immediate overthrow of the government is problematic. " There have been five protests and every week they say it will fall this week, it will fall next week. If the expectation increases and the party leader says we will overthrow it this week, while Rama continues his work, we should see for ourselves if the problem is also with us ," he said.

Referring to the reaction of embassies after the recent protest, Salianji stressed that there had never been such reactions before when protests took place in front of the Prime Minister's Office. According to him, the violence provided a pretext for public stances against the opposition.

In conclusion, he said that protest remains a valuable instrument of reaction in the face of scandals, but stressed that the opposition must change strategy and return the focus to the facts and files that implicate the government.

" Today, the DP could have occupied the public space by discussing the dossier. I'm not bringing up the SP, but the DP should have come out and said: here are the facts ," concluded Salianji.
