One of the most voted opposition figures in the May 11 elections, Ilir Alimehmeti, believes that the Democratic Party should be reorganized and open to new figures.
Alimehmeti said that beyond the battle to tell the truth about the May 11 electoral farce, the DP has two challenges, the first is the battle in parliament and the second is the battle to make the DP a winning party. According to him, to make it a winning party, the DP must first open up and reorganize.
"Those principles with which the re-establishment began; the first is openness, which means inviting and calling people who can contribute to the party, and the second is meritocracy. Now we have some electoral processes that have been developed, which means people who give and perform should be supported to move forward and some people who have performed less than was acceptable, then a step back," he said.
According to Ilir Alimehmeti, reorganization is the only way for the DP to create spirit and bring hope.
"Without a real reform, we will find it difficult, I'm not saying impossible, but we will find it difficult to approach the 2027 elections. Certainly calmly, these require their own time, require their own procedures, we are still waiting for the final report of the OSCE-ODIHR, because it is part of our analysis and based on our analysis, this reform should be discussed, how extensive it should be," said Alimehmeti.
He emphasized that the DP must see all possibilities to become a winning force.
"Something that works, works. Something that doesn't work and has shown that it doesn't work, then it needs to be changed for the better. Why? Because Einstein says it very clearly, if we use the same methodology and expect different results, we are not very clear about what we are doing," he concluded for "Vizion Plus".
The internal debate on the reorganization of the DP is not expected to open for several more weeks until the ODIHR's final report on the parliamentary elections is published, and only then will it be seen whether the largest opposition party decides to change or not.
