The draft law brought by the government to increase the salaries of the members and the president of the Constitutional Court increases their salaries from 6.4 million ALL and 7.5 million ALL per month.
The democratic deputy, Oerd Bylykbashi, spoke against the salary increase of the judges of the Constitutional Court, adding that the pensions in Albania are shameful.
Bylykbashi said that the government's argument is that with the increase in salaries the Constitutional Court becomes more independent, but according to him this is more a matter of dignity.
Bylykbashi further said that in Albania we have a minimum pension, for some people we have 78 thousand old lek, while he adds that the vital minimum today is nearly 200 thousand old lek.
"All of you have met in the electoral campaign when you met the citizens. You have met people, pensioners... It happened to me personally, when I met someone who complained about the old 150 thousand pension. There was another one next door. 150 said, I have 75 thousand old lek. So he was half of the other one. We have a minimum pension, for some people we have the old 78 thousand ALL. This is a shame. Do a simple calculation of how much these citizens live so that with that pension they can live with dignity the term citizen.
They get something that has nothing to do with their human dignity as an individual. This republic is committed to the dignity of its people. We know very well that the vital minimum today is nearly 200 thousand old lek", said Bylykbashi.
The democratic deputy said that the opposition has proposed a legal initiative for the vital minimum, 200 thousand Lek, but the majority rejects it.
"Why don't we make an effort to raise the dignity of these (pensioners) if we raise it to senior officials", said Bylykbashi, taking as an example the increase that is proposed to be made to the salaries of judges in the Constitutional Court.
