The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, paid a private visit to Istog, Kosovo, where he was invited to several activities organized by the hosts.
In an interview with Kanali10 television, Berisha said that he visited the graves of martyrs who fell in the war for Kosovo's freedom and honored them.
Asked by the media, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, said that the process at the Special Court in The Hague is being conducted without facts. 'To date, I have not read a single fact holding those who led this war and who are today in the dock accountable. I hope that this process will confirm, sanction their innocence and the role they played. They led a liberation war,' Berisha stressed during the interview.
The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, also honored Ibrahim Rugova, as he was in his hometown, Istog.
"He is the great man of this nation who took the just cause of the people of Kosovo, the cause of their freedom and independence, from the barracks of the Democratic League of Kosovo in Pristina and took it to the Oval Office, to the highest offices of the USA," emphasized Sali Berisha.
Berisha's interview
I was on a private visit to my friends. We celebrated Gani Dresha's birthday and I felt very honored to be their friend. I visited the Istog mountains all the way to Çorovodë, on the border, and I was lucky enough to enjoy the beauty of this mountain.
But of course, I could never leave Istog without expressing my deepest respect, without bowing down with the most boundless gratitude, to the dozens and dozens of boys and girls of Istog who fell with rifles in their hands for freedom and national dignity, for an independent Kosovo.
The battles of the fighters of Istog and of this area as a whole have been some of the bloodiest, but also with a very special role in the freedom and independence of Kosovo. Therefore, I express once again my greatest respect, my boundless gratitude to the fighters of the KLA, who with their fight, defended not only the values of Albanians for freedom and dignity, but it was the last liberation war in Europe and put an end to a colony in the heart of Europe that constituted a great and intolerable shame.
I said, I spent the day in the mountains, but even there there were traces of Serbian barbarity, who had flooded from Sandzak and gathered what they found, elderly and disabled people, 53 citizens of Istog passed before the barrage of their weapons.
I express my greatest respect to them too.
Meanwhile, we have so many years after the war in Kosovo. The Kosovo Liberation War is being judged through the process of the Special Court. How do you see this process, knowing that it has reached its end and since we are in Ibrahim Rugova's Istog, one more word about Rugova...
Sali Berisha: The liberation war of the people of Kosovo is the brightest page in the history of the Albanian nation since the wars of Skanderbeg to this day. That war made the Albanian nation free but it made the Balkans and Europe more just and free. In this context, nothing can overshadow the historical contribution of the freedom fighters. Regarding the Hague Tribunal, we must be realistic that it is a court of Kosovo. We must always see it with realism. I have followed it absolutely with the greatest attention. Until today I have not read a single fact that holds those who led this war and who are today in the dock responsible. I hope that this process will confirm, sanction their innocence and the role they played. They led a liberation war. The KLA units were, in the truest sense, NATO allies on the ground in the territory of Kosovo.
Even for Rugova, since we are in Istog and Rugova...
Sali Berisha: I am here in Istog, the birthplace of the political genius of the Albanian nation. I have emphasized and emphasized again, the geniuses of this nation were Skanderbeg, Ismail Kadare, Ibrahim Rugova and Mother Teresa. Because these personalities, each in his field, became a symbol of inspiration not only for Albanians but for people all over the world. Ibrahim Rugova is and will remain the architect of Kosovo's Independence. He is the great man of this nation who took the just cause of the people of Kosovo, the cause of its freedom and independence, from the barracks of the Democratic League of Kosovo in Pristina and took it to the Oval Office, to the highest offices of the USA. Ibrahim Rugova represented the nation and its interests with the greatest dignity, with the greatest civility, with the greatest vision and clarity.
