How many millions did LaCivita receive? The countdown begins for Berisha, he

From payments to LaCivita to lobbying contracts, Berisha must account for millions of campaign dollars in September...

The heat seems to be fading with August, and September is expected to bring back the political 'war'. While the first week is expected to draw attention with the composition of the new government, the focus then seems to be on the Democratic Party, which has many unresolved scores regarding its defeat in the elections.

But beyond the internal struggle regarding Berisha's political fate, it will be interesting to see how much money the leader of the Democratic Party, Chris LaCivita, paid him to help him in the campaign.

Although Berisha avoided the question of how much the American strategist cost him for months, the moment of truth is approaching. No matter how much the DP leader has deviated, he cannot evade the law, as he could face criminal prosecution.

The Electoral Code is clear: “ 1. Electoral entities are obliged to submit a financial report for the election campaign to the CEC within 60 days of the announcement of the election results.

2. Financial reports are prepared according to models approved by the CEC. The report, as a rule, must contain information on:

a) any donation, loan or credit given to the electoral entity (including its branches and candidates) during the electoral campaign and six months prior to the campaign and its source, including donations or services in kind;

b) income for election campaign purposes from all other permitted sources;

c) all items of expenditure for the purposes of the election campaign, as defined in the CEC decision and in point 4 of Article 92/2 of this law;

ç) the balance sheet of assets and liabilities of the political party for the period from the decree of the election date until the election date .

Given that the final CEC result was certified at the end of July, the DP seems to have until the end of September to declare to the CEC how much money it gave to the Trump campaign strategist. If it does not do so, SPAK risks taking Berisha to court, just as it did with Ilir Meta, who hid his lobbying expenses in the US.

Staying on this part, it seems that Berisha is trying to escape accountability for the $6 million contract for lobbying in the US. There are many who consider it a contract that should be declared to the CEC, because it was for the campaign. Berisha himself has stated that it has nothing to do with the campaign, wanting to remove the obligation of the Electoral Code.

Berisha has sold the lobbying contract as a "gift" from patriots in the US. He has said that the DP will not pay a single lek and the expenses will be covered by the "Make Albania Great Again" foundation. So, he is careful to avoid article 92/1, which specifies that contributions of more than 1 million lek are not allowed.

We will see if Berisha will declare this contract. If not, it seems that SPAK will come into play here, which is investigating the contract and will ultimately show whether there is a legal violation or not.  /Pamphlet
