The Criminal Court of Kosovo has scheduled the first preliminary hearing against Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi. It is learned that the hearing will be held on September 25 at 11:00.
Judge Irena Gjoka will decide whether or not to proceed with the trial of the case against Meta and other defendants, who will decide whether to proceed with the trial, or return the case to SPAK for further investigations.
SPAK has named Ilir Meta, Monika Kryemadhi, Pirro Xhixho, Ema Çoku and Fatime Kryemadhi as defendants in connection with lobbying in the US and the 'CEZ-DIA' affair.
The Special Prosecution Office completed the investigations against Ilir Meta and Kryemadhi on charges of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets and sent the file to the court to be evaluated in a preliminary hearing.
Also sent for trial as co-defendants are Fatime Kryemadhi, the mother of Monika Kryemadhi, former head of AKEP, Pirro Xhixho, and Ema Çoku, a financier of the SMI. The case concerns the CEZ-DIA case and the SMI's lobbying in the US.
According to SPAK, Meta is accused of passive corruption in three cases, two of which were committed in collaboration. His ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi, has been charged with passive corruption in two cases committed in collaboration.
The former spouses are also charged with the criminal offenses of "Laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity" committed in collaboration, "Refusal to declare, failure to declare, concealment or false declaration of assets, private interests of elected persons and public servants, or of any other person who has a legal obligation to declare."
Kryemadhi's mother and the defendant Ema Çoku are accused of money laundering, while Xhixho is accused of passive corruption committed in collaboration.
SPAK explains that the proceedings against Meta and the other defendants began in 2019 and were expanded in subsequent years based on various reports. In 2024, all separate proceedings were merged into a single one.
Ilir Meta has been in prison since October of last year, while he and the other defendants have publicly denied the charges as politically fabricated.
