What stands out is that it seems as if the crisis in the DP has alienated the Americans from the opposition. The US envoy in charge of the embassy has not had any meeting with representatives of the opposition...
The United States of America has sent a message today that it follows the political current very closely. On Monday, the Assembly started the new parliamentary session amid debates, while today Washington's envoy to Tirana, David Wisner, knocked on Nikola's office.
He has stated that the US supports democratic institutions, as he has made it clear that justice reform remains essential for them. He said that only thanks to this reform, Albania can join the EU. It is known that the USA has asked for dialogue and not political conflict.
" The Charge d'Affaires David Wisner met today with the Speaker of the Parliament Lindita Nikolla to discuss the beginning of the new parliamentary season, as well as to reaffirm the support of the United States for the democratic institutions of Albania. They agreed that improved governance, especially in relation to justice reform, is essential in Albania's efforts to succeed within the Euro-Atlantic community ," the embassy announced.
But what stands out is that it seems as if the crisis in DP has alienated the Americans from the opposition. In every parliamentary session, American diplomats held meetings with parliamentary groups, while the US envoy decided to meet only with Nikola.
Another element is that both Ambassador Yuri Kim and David Wisner did not have any meetings with PD representatives in the last months before leaving. David Wisner has been in the country for several weeks and he has met with many political figures, including Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Bajram Begaj. But the opposition has missed meetings.
Apparently, the Americans are in a dilemma, as it seems as if they are interfering in the conflict within the DP. The party is divided into 3-4 parts. Basha claims that he is a legitimate chairman, Berisha as well, and on the other hand is Bardhi's group.
It is known that the Americans do not know Berisha, but it is not known if they recognize Basha as the president. When he won the elections, there was no congratulations from the US, while until today the US envoy has preferred to stay away from the opposition. It remains to be seen what happens in the coming days. / Pamphlet
