In a joint press conference with the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, Prime Minister Edi Rama comments on Albania's position against the EU statement on the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
According to Rama, the EU statement has a big problem, as it does not correspond to the reality of the last few days.
"To return to the question regarding our position for the first time, at least in the last 10 years, in opposition to a statement of the foreign policy of the European Union, this position is related to the fact that the statement of the European Union is a statement , which does not in itself have a problem, as it addresses everything that was said before by the high representative Joseph Borrell regarding the obligations of Kosovo in relation to the dialogue, but there is a big problem that does not correspond to the reality of the last days and we find it impossible to align with the European Union without seeing a second statement that addresses the problem of the last few days, where a dramatic development took place after an officer of the Police of the Republic of Kosovo was killed by a criminal group that was clearly invested to exercise terror in the north of Kosovo, which was followed by the declaration of a day of national mourning in Belgrade.
This for us is unacceptable, it is unjustifiable and even reprehensible because it is not European and because at the same time it is the worst signal that Serbia could give at this moment for the whole region and for Europe and we have asked that the European Union, all the Euro-Atlantic community should set the alarm at the highest level, the democratic alarm at the highest level, and use all the instruments available to return the appropriate message to this completely unacceptable message that comes from the declaration of national mourning in Belgrade and until the moment when there will not be a second declaration of the European Union to decide with justice a judgment for the last days, we will not be aligned with the first declaration.
At the moment the second statement comes out and if the second statement does what we ask, then we have no problem aligning with the first statement because regardless of what Serbia does, which is what we have to do with Serbia, we don't We reject all the demands of the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic community for Kosovo, and at this point our line is 100% the line of the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic community, but I repeat, this is the moment to loudly condemn that that happened in the north of Kosovo and what then followed in Belgrade with the announcement of a day of national mourning that glorifies the commitment of a criminal group to carry out terror in the north of Kosovo, "said Rama .
Albania has not supported the EU's statement on the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, made by the head of the EU's Foreign Policy, Josep Borrel, on September 19.
This is the first time that Albania is not on the same line with the European Union regarding the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
Seeing the recent developments, where a Kosovo police officer was killed by Serbian terrorists, Albania considers that the EU's positions regarding the dialogue are not appropriate for the current situation, since the responsibility no longer rests with Kosovo.
