Albania closer to Serbia than Kosovo? Basha criticizes Rama: We are moving in

The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, has stated that Albania is moving in the wrong direction, not standing by Kosovo.

"Albania is far behind with the agenda for supporting Kosovo and reflecting Euro-Atlantic values and principles in the regional foreign policy. I say this without hesitation. For a long time, Albania has gone in the wrong direction considering Belgrade as a reliable partner, creating unnecessary distance from the emancipated capitals of the region, which share the same Euro-Atlantic values and agenda, such as Zagreb. or Sofia and others, " Basha told Euronews.

Basha also added that with the appointment of Aleksandar Vulin as Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, President Aleksandar Vucic has openly shown his intentions.

"Vulin has been declared non grata because he is seen as a supporter of Vladimir Putin in the Balkans. But Vucic goes and makes him deputy prime minister. Vucic has told us, at least he has been honest, that he will wait for the right circumstances regarding Kosovo and the so-called Serbian imperial agenda. For a long time, Vucic has spoken the language of the West, but acted like Moscow. He supports the re-creation of a Serbian empire with Belgrade at its center, with Republika Srpska splitting off, with Montenegro used as Belgrade's Belarus. The attempt to forcibly take parts of Kosovo, an independent state, has served as a prelude to this, imposing the reality of the division of the north of Kosovo. This is a threat to peace and stability in the Balkans. We should not wait for Vucic to throw the dice. We have to stop it now", emphasized Basha.

Lulzim Basha called for Albania to play a more proactive role in the region and not to hesitate in supporting Kosovo.

"Albania has a big role. We cannot hide behind our privileges as a member of NATO, we cannot hide behind the security of our close and strategic alliance with the USA or with the United Kingdom and the EU. We must take our steps! This is why, for more than four months, my proposal has been delayed in Parliament. I requested an annual financing from Albania for Kosovo in military aid, in the amount of 50 million euros. They are there, but instead of being put up for discussion and unanimously voted on, it has been dragged out. This is a sign of the irresponsible behavior of Albania under the current government, as far as national, regional and Euro-Atlantic security architecture in the Balkans is concerned," said Basha.

"We must put an end to the tradition of folklore support for Kosovo. Let the football fans enjoy the patriotic songs, but take measured and determined steps to show that for Albania, any scenario of sidelining the Euro-Atlantic agenda by any regional actor is unacceptable and that we are ready to do everything to stop such a scenario" , concluded Basha.
