Activist Evi Kokalari has leveled strong accusations against former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and his political ally Fatmir Mediu, demanding an immediate investigation by SPAK for suspected lobbying in the United States.
In a post published on social media, Kokalari has put Donald Trump's former advisor, Paul Manafort, a well-known figure convicted in the US for hidden lobbying affairs at the center of the accusations.
" You've asked enough how much LaCivita is getting paid, you're starting to ask how much Paul Manafort is getting paid. Having Manafort on your side and saying that these are not lobbyists is the height of hypocrisy ," writes Kokalari.
According to her, a former US congressman confirmed to her that Brazilian President Bolsonaro also hired Manafort to lobby against Judge Alexandre de Moraes and current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The upfront payment for the contract alone – known as a “retainer” – was $400,000.
" I can't tell you how true it is ," she continues, " but I guarantee you that Manafort is one of the most expensive lobbyists ."
Kokalari further mentions the fact that Manafort's former partner was registered as a lobbyist for Berisha in 2023, under the American law FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act).
" Now will Berisha convince us that these people are not lobbying to remove his 'non-wife'? Judge for yourself by the fine Manafort received after his conviction in the US - 24 million dollars! ", she writes in harsh tones.
At the end of the statement, Kokalari calls on the special justice body to act urgently.
" SPAK should investigate both Berisha and Fatmir Mediu for these lobbying and payments! Don't sleep, because the country is in danger! ", she said.
