Journalist Neritan Sejamini commented on the IBAR report. He described it as one of the most critical reports on Albania in recent years.
According to Sejamini, the European Union's final report is far from political triumphalism and should be seen as a serious alarm about the problems the country faces on its path towards European integration.
"The report presented by the commission was completely transformed and the final report issued by the European Union approving what has been achieved by setting the final objectives. It is a report that cannot be a source of pride, but will be a great concern for Albania and a report that shows that Albania's European perspective today is further away than it was a few months ago, or at least we understand today that we are much further away ," said Sejamini.
He emphasized that the report highlights serious problems in the functioning of democracy and the rule of law in Albania.
"It is a report that reveals the major problems that Albanian democracy has, the major problems that the rule of law has, the major problems with corruption, the major problems with the impunity of politicians, the major problems with elections, the major problems with property management and property, the major problems that we have with a number of other sectors, with the freedom of the media that we have with the rights of minorities and so on," he said.
He stated that this is one of the harshest reports drafted for Albania in recent decades.
"So, if you look at it, it's probably the most serious report that's been made about Albania, let's say in the last 10 years, the last two decades. It's a terribly critical report that's a slap in the face to the European Commission and a punch to the Albanian government ," he added.
The journalist also focused on the main message that, according to him, the European Union is giving Albania: laws on paper are not enough without concrete implementation and real results.
"The report has shown that one cannot measure a country's readiness and preparation to become a member state of the European Union just by counting the laws on paper. Right at the beginning of the European Union report it is stated that laws on paper are not enough. Implementation in practice with concrete results and in a sustainable and continuous manner," stressed Sejamini.
Sejamini further emphasized that the report sets clear objectives for Albania for the first time.
"Full implementation in practice with concrete and sustainable results is key to closing the negotiations, closing these chapters, and this is what is said from the beginning of the document, then the entire document is what Albania will do and for the first time you have precise objectives," the journalist added.
Finally, he stated that the integration process cannot move forward with propaganda or formal legal changes alone.
"That report says one thing in Europe, it doesn't go away if you don't behave like a European. It doesn't go away with jokes, it doesn't go away with propaganda, it doesn't go away with law. In this report, it doesn't go away anymore, it only has to go away by implementing things in practice ," Sejamini concluded for "A2 CNN".
