Even at one of the most important conferences on Albania's integration process into the European Union, Prime Minister Edi Rama did not spare jokes and elements of political showmanship.
During the Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels, Rama began his speech with a greeting in Greek to the Deputy Minister for European Affairs of Cyprus, Marilena Raouna, and then addressed the Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, with an expression in a variant that he himself admitted was "not exactly Slovenian."
" Dear Marilena, agapi mou! Thank you very much, dear Marta! Don't you love me? I was thinking of saying 'Yubim te', 'Yubim te' is not exactly the Slovenian variant, but it could be ," Rama said between jokes.
The Prime Minister's statement was accompanied by laughter in the hall, while Commissioner Marta Kos approached him and greeted him with a kiss.
Rama continued with romantic comparisons about Albania's relationship with the European Union, describing the integration as "unconditional love."
" You should see and learn from Albania's love for the EU, the inexhaustible, unconditional love, a love that sometimes brings suffering, but here we are, but of course we are very happy ," declared the Prime Minister.
Such moments are not new for Rama, who has often chosen to use humor, irony and jokes even at important international summits or meetings. But this time his show comes at a time when Albania is facing one of the most delicate phases of negotiations with the EU, where the focus is on the rule of law, corruption and concrete results of reforms.
