Prime Minister Edi Rama described the 8th Intergovernmental Conference as another "milestone" for Albania on the path towards the European Union, emphasizing that the country has already entered the phase of starting to close the negotiation chapters.
Prime Minister Edi Rama declared from Brussels that Albania has entered a new phase of the European integration process, after the start of the closing of the negotiation chapters with the European Union.
In his speech during the 8th Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference, Rama described this moment as a historic achievement for the country, while emphasizing that Albania remains one of the most pro-European countries on the continent.
" Inexhaustible, unconditional love. Love that sometimes brings suffering, but here we are, we are very happy because we have reached another extraordinary milestone. We opened all the chapters within 11 months and moved from this to the phase of starting to close the chapters. We feel energized, encouraged, but also with more responsibility, because we know that it is the beginning of the end and we have to do more work ," declared Rama.
The Prime Minister said that the integration process has brought concrete transformations in the economy, investments and the strengthening of institutions in Albania.
" It is time to tell all Albanians who have followed IBAR with so much attention that today we have a country that has a GDP of 27 billion euros, when we started with eight. We have a country that has gone from 300-400 million euros of foreign investment to billions. People need to understand that this is related to the work we are doing together ," he said.
Rama emphasized that the justice reform and the integration process have brought about a completely different reality than that of previous years.
" We have a justice system that is empowered and independent like never before in the history of our country. We started with the stigma of a country with a culture of impunity and this now seems like it happened centuries ago. Our administration is more engaged, more invested and more capable. Our European journey is irreversible and this entire transformation is the foundation for better wages, greater investments and more well-being for Albanians ," declared the Prime Minister.
At the end of his speech, Rama again used humorous notes and symbolism about Albania's relationship with the European Union.
" You should learn from Albania's love for the EU, unconditional and sincere. We have broken another record for negotiations and this is just the beginning of the end ," Rama said.
