Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, has raised deep concern about food safety in the country, following repeated cases where Albanian products have been blocked at the borders of the European Union due to high levels of pesticides.
In a post on social media, Tabaku writes, "what we put on our tables every day is not simply a food choice, but a matter of safety and risk to life."
She brings to attention the cases of tangerines, tomatoes, peppers and peaches blocked by the EU in recent months.
According to her, the lack of controls, modern laboratories and support for agriculture are turning food security into one of the most serious problems for Albanian citizens. “This is not a luxury, it is a prerequisite for the health of citizens and for the European integration process itself,” she said.
Tabaku warned that she will pursue this issue to the end, emphasizing that food safety is above all a matter of life. “No amount of artificial intelligence can cover up the lack of control over what we eat every day,” said the Democratic MP.
