Member of the DP Presidency and candidate for Tirana, Grigels Muçollari, has demanded the immediate resignation of Minister Anila Denaj following the scandal of tons of meat contaminated with salmonella that ended up on the market.
In a statement to the media, Muçollari called on the prosecution not to stop at petty executors, but to also investigate senior officials, emphasizing that the minister must be held responsible for this scandal.
"Neither the 32 pesticides harmful to health banned in the EU, but freely circulating in Albania, nor the poisonous salmonella make the government, the Minister of Agriculture, Anila Denaj, and the AKU move from the country.
Public opinion was shocked yesterday by the discovery that at the beginning of this month, 27 tons of chicken fillet affected by salmonella entered the Port of Durres.
This is officially confirmed by the AKU. This agency claims to have detected traces of salmonella at the port customs. However, it did not carry out its duty to immediately block it.
So, a large part of this quantity has entered the market.
There were reports about this situation all day yesterday. Due to the lack of transparency and criminal irresponsibility of Minister Denaj, the versions are different.
But no one denies that meat laced with the poisonous substance has reached markets and citizens' homes.
This is a very serious scandal. Our authorities first reacted late to the final analysis, and worst of all, they allowed the product to be consumed.
Since even harming the health of citizens is not a reason for Ms. Denaj to take responsibility, be transparent, and leave her post an hour early, we tell the Prosecution today that if she truly wants to do her job and protect citizens, she should stop pursuing petty criminals, but go straight to the office of the Minister of Agriculture.
Food security will be decided on May 11th by a vote of citizens, but in the meantime, we will demand full transparency of these events and the bringing of every government official to justice.
The Democratic Party considers food security a matter of National Security.
"The Democratic Party will engage the best specialists and all the necessary resources to guarantee food products, for our children, for our parents, through a platform that foresees a total reversal of the current situation, from legal interventions to the provision of European standards in the analysis and treatment of cases. The DP will increase capacities in human resources and infrastructure, to enable the prevention of cases," he said.
