Today the Assembly of Albania will meet in a special parliamentary session, where it is expected to approve the SPAK request for the arrest of the former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj. After hours of debate and tension in yesterday's session, with the insistence of the Democratic Party, it was agreed that SPAK's request be discussed today at 10:00 a.m., although it was scheduled for Monday.
With the approval of SPAK's request, Arben Ahmetaj's immunity as a deputy is finally removed and the way to arrest is opened, although until now it is still not known where the former prime minister is, who has left Albania. The Socialist Party itself has declared that it will not become the shield of Ahmetaj or any corrupt official.
In a first reaction, after the request for arrest, Arben Ahmetaj has denied every accusation that has been brought against him, saying that he will speak only when everyone understands that it has nothing to do with the procedure. He even said that he will come out when the truth comes out.
The Special Prosecutor's Office asks the Assembly to pave the way for the arrest of former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, who is being investigated for three charges of "non-declaration, false declaration and concealment of wealth", alone and in cooperation, "Passive corruption of officials of high state officials or local elected officials" in six cases, "Cleaning the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity".
