The deputy of the Democratic Party, Arbi Agalliu, who is a supporter of the chief democrat Lulzim Basha, has stated that there was no secret meeting between Enkelejd Alibeaj and Damian Gjiknuri regarding the electoral reform.
Agalliu made the comments on the show "Now with Erla Mëhillin" on Euronews, where he said that it was the international partners who exerted pressure on the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama, so that this reform could be carried out by consensus.
He said that today's letter sent to the OSCE by the two co-chairmen of the Electoral Reform Commission, Gjiknuri and Alibeaj, was part of this international pressure.
"This is a document that the two chairmen of the bipartisan commission have asked for what the internationals are asking for, Electoral Reform.
It is the extraordinary support of allies such as the USA and the EU that put the government under pressure, as you saw until a few days ago, Rama was saying we are not asking for electoral reform, nor commissions, we can do it alone, he said.
So without international pressure, some things cannot be done. The constant international pressure has led to the launch of a joint letter today. These are meetings which were public, there were also relevant statements. There is a commission set up here ," Agalliu said.
