Prime Minister Edi Rama has asked mayors across the country to reform their subordinate staffs, demanding the removal, through resignations or dismissals, of deputy mayors, administrators and directors in local government units.
Rama's order has begun to be implemented, while the wave of imposed resignations does not stop at what are considered high- or mid-level positions in the country's municipalities.
With the exception of municipalities run by Democrats, who consider the Prime Minister's order to be political, in many municipalities run by Socialists the second stage has begun: that of announcements, even fictitious ones, inviting citizens to apply for vacant positions, following massive resignations.
There are hundreds of directors, administrators, and deputy mayors of municipalities who, within a few days, have filed requests to be removed from their positions.
But it seems that there are still 3 municipalities that are still not obeying Rama.
Despite having a much smaller weight than the already vacant Municipalities, it seems that in the vast majority of socialist power in local government units, 3 mayors have stepped out of line.
These are Vangjel Tavon of Himara, Adriatik Mema of Skrapar and Ergest Dule of Konispol. The latter has also opposed the Prime Minister in the meeting that took place with local elected officials in Durrës, a few days ago, while he faced a harsh reaction from Rama, who put him between two choices: resign himself, or dismiss the directors, administrators and deputy mayors of the Municipality.
Vangjel Tavo has also opposed Rama, but choosing a more justifiable path, with the fact that his appointees are young people, who will be evaluated based on performance.
On the other hand, the 'storm' has not yet arrived in the Municipality of Skrapar, while in other local government units in the Berat District, the cleaning 'operation' has begun based on the Prime Minister's order.
It remains to be seen how long the three mayors will resist the pressure not to change their staffs.
