Democratic Party MP Luan Baçi stated that the Police exercised unjustified violence and acted with political motives during the protest held the day before in Tirana.
Baçi accused the security forces of behaving like "political police", with the aim of intimidating and scaring the protesters. According to him, the presence of officers was unusual, with over 1,000 officers engaged in the field.
The DP MP emphasized that police structures were prepared for clashes and that the intervention began at the beginning of the rally.
"Police violence began from the beginning and continued until the end of the protest, culminating in the use of tear gas near the Democratic Party headquarters, where there were direct clashes ," Baci told "Syri TV".
The Democratic MP particularly criticized the manner in which citizens were detained. According to him, the police did not follow legal procedures, but also escorted and detained passersby who were not participating in the protest.
Baçi stated that some officers, with their faces covered, have escorted citizens without informing them of the reasons for their detention or their procedural rights. He added that he had visited Police Station No. 3, where, according to him, 16 people were being held in solitary confinement.
Baçi warned that the Democratic Party will file criminal charges against police officers for their actions during the protest.
"This is not a police force of the rule of law, but a truly political police force that takes political orders and acts as an organization of the Socialist Party ," he concluded.
