The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stated that the February 20 protest had a wide international resonance and was broadcast by the world's largest agencies and media. He described it as a "peaceful uprising", while emphasizing that the media coverage put Albania in the spotlight.
Berisha singled out the publication of photos by the international agency Getty Images. According to him, the descriptions accompanying some of the images mentioned the political situation in the country.
"Friends, the echo of our peaceful uprising last night was more thunderous than ever before.
While the uprising was taking place, the world's largest news agencies, televisions and world media were broadcasting it. But I want to highlight before you today the photo album of the most prestigious photo agency in the world, Getty Images. In her album, on some of the photos, she wrote: Albania, the country of Stalinist-style elections. In others, the thief prime minister and the thief deputy prime minister. So, corruption. Which shows that you, dear insurgents, defended the honor of our country, defended the honor of Albanians, their dignity. You became the true face of this nation in contrast to the blackened face of Edi Rama and his government. So, the cause is just, the victory is ours. Once again, boundless gratitude for your courage and bravery," he said.
In his speech, Berisha thanked the participants and presented the protest as a confrontation with the government. He considered the international reaction as an indicator of the impact that, according to him, this event had on public opinion abroad.
