Democratic MP, Jorida Tabaku, who on May 11 managed to obtain the mandate from the open list of the 'PD-ASHM' coalition, considered the "Rule of Law" report, published by the European Commission, as a strong blow to the Albanian government.
"I had not seen a report that started on the front page, referring to Veliaj's arrest, which implies unprecedented public actions and reactions from the executive and legislative branches towards the judiciary," she said.
Tabaku tells journalist Osman Stafa on News24 that if the elections are not held as required by European standards, Albania could take steps back in the integration process, as has happened with Serbia.
"Albania is being checked for the first group chapter, because the first one was opened and the last one will be closed. There is no other way for Albania than to hold free and fair elections, which this time were not. Many countries in the region, due to the violation of the first group chapter, have taken steps back," she said.
The DP MP emphasizes that the May 11 elections will be denounced and it is expected that the European People's Parties will bring a fact-finding mission to Albania on violations in the electoral process.
"First of all, the elections for the DP are not a closed chapter, we are waiting for the final report, we are waiting for a fact-finding mission from the EPP, but they are not a closed chapter for the EP Foreign Affairs Committee either. The final report will be approved in July. Immediately afterwards, the committee will make a work plan for a fact-finding mission in Albania in early 2026," said Tabaku.
She stated that the DP will continue to tell the truth to every international institution about the theft of the May 11 elections.
