The 2025 elections, the third return or the end of Sali Berisha?

The end of last year found Sali Berisha locked between the four walls of his apartment. The Special Court at the request of SPAK isolated the leader of the Democratic Party, taking away his right to communicate with anyone outside his apartment.

For many, this should have been Sali Berisha's last political chapter, but the democratic leader did not take a single step back. The street which bears the name of the people's hero Mustafa Matohiti, until the end of last year, was known in Tirana for its nightclubs, as many people met by referring to it in the popular language as "Sala's Alley", identifying it with the residence of the former the prime minister.

With the house arrest of Berisha, the pilgrimage for the democrats returned to the country and it was the democrat leader himself who baptized it as the "Road of Hope".

Sali Berisha's nightly speeches turned the balcony of his apartment into the party's pulpit, where the most important decisions were announced for the first time from there.

The house arrest did not prevent Berisha from carrying out his political functions, but also from holding meetings that the fruits gave him very quickly.

In addition to the union, the Parliamentary Group started to hold meetings at headquarters and everyone called for unity. His apartment was then turned into an official work environment, where, in addition to speeches in the evening for supporters, he gave messages to journalists, participants in the protests, but also organized meetings with the leadership structures of the DP.

From house arrest, he received the good news that the Democratic Party belongs to him, where the Court of Appeal decided to give him the seal and logo.

As he continued his isolation with his eyes on the court, where his lawyers submitted requests from time to time, Sali Berisha also started the action that he calls civil disobedience. But is civil disobedience the right way to achieve the goals?

On the other hand, the democrats have also engaged in the international arena, where they managed to convince three international forums to approve resolutions condemning the government's behavior with its opponents.

Berisha described them as support for the Democratic Party and asked them to continue this campaign in the international arena. But is there a change in the approach of internationals with Berisha? The elections are approaching and already the Democratic Party seems to have put behind most of its internal problems.

Sali Berisha has been free for a month, and the demand articulated by him and all others in the blue office is the technical government and the achievement of victory in the elections.

But can PD win with Berisha in charge? Despite all the skepticism, Sali Berisha expressed his conviction that in 2025 he will return to the head of the country.

But the charter of the democrats in case of losing the elections talks about consequences against the president, where resignation and disallowance for candidacy are required.

"In the event that after the announcement of the result of the general elections for the Assembly, the Party is not the winning governing force, the mandate ends immediately and automatically due to the Statute. In this case, the chairman whose mandate ends is not allowed to run in the next elections for party chairman", DP statute.

Within the ranks of the Democratic Party, there is no mention or thought of replacing Berisha.

Everyone is talking about victory on May 11 and they have started to do the calculations for Berisha's government, but is this the last political chance for him? Not waiting for the result of the bet, the analysts demand a reflection from it and a reading of the vote of the Albanians and withdrawal. / A2 Television
