The head of the Central Electoral Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, has announced that the vote counting for the November 9 local by-elections will be done through Artificial Intelligence. This is the first time that AI will be applied to the electoral process.
Celibashi announced the news at the conference on the topic "Oversight of Digitalization in Electoral Processes". The Chief Missionary said that this first practice will serve as a test and will not replace the method of counting and evaluating votes, which will remain the official method of reference for this aspect of the electoral process.
"We have begun in the experimental version the use of Artificial Intelligence for searching and obtaining electoral information through the CEC website as well as to provide assistance and create facilities for the electoral administration, but also for other entities involved in the electoral process, the opportunity to receive and process this information, or various aspects of the electoral process.
On November 9 of this year, the by-elections will be held. The CEC staff is working to apply for the first time the use of Artificial Intelligence in the counting and evaluation of ballots and the issuance of results. This project will serve as a test and will not replace the method of counting and evaluating votes for the time being, which will remain the official method of reference for this aspect of the electoral process", declared Celibashi.
The costs of this entire process will be covered by donations from international partners. Celibashi added that this project aims to apply AI as widely as possible in the electoral process.
