DP leader Sali Berisha has attacked the Constitutional Court a day after it made the final interpretation of the duration of each judge's mandate, assessing that Sonila Bejtja's mandate ends this year and not in 2028 as she claimed.
While leaving behind the accusations from SPAK, today in a conference from the blue headquarters, Berisha said that the Constitutional Court yesterday violated its law and the opinions of the Venice Commission and announced the termination of Bejtja's mandate.
"The Constitutional Court yesterday violated its own law. It decided to overturn the official opinions of the Venice Commission and declare the termination of Bejtja's mandate beyond any jurisdiction," said Berisha.
Berisha claims that her mandate ended in 2028.
"Sonila Bejtja began her term in 2020 beyond any doubt, except for the red circle as an enemy of the drug state, her mandate could not be affected until 2028. Bejtja took over Besnik Muçi's mandate and was elected for a position that was vacant since 2016. But, according to the law of the Constitutional Court, according to the opinion of Venice, according to the constitution itself, her mandate could not be interrupted. Constitutional judges do not have a constitution, the president has his pocket and there is no constitution, the Albanian state has never been insulted and humiliated in such a way. What business does the Constitutional Court have to interpret for itself and why? Because Bajram Limioni tells her. Bejtja was an independent voice. A voice that honored the fundamental principle of a system. Those who think that a political lawyer is being played here are seriously mistaken. She is being played for the constitution," Berisha said.
