Opposition leader Sali Berisha, just five months after announcing Florian Binaj as the opposition-backed candidate for the local elections in Tirana, has withdrawn.
On October 6th of last year, when the date of November 9th was initially set for the Tirana elections, but which were overturned by the Constitutional Court, Sali Berisha was convinced that Florian Binaj would take the mayoralty against Ogerta Manastirliu.
This Saturday, at a press conference, Berisha openly stated that the opposition will decide on her candidacy, not an independent candidate.
The chief democrat said that preparations have begun and that candidates will be presented many months before the 2027 local elections.
"The opposition has started work and will soon complete the process of analysis and elections within the party. While it is thinking, it is also working on local elections.
"So it won't be two months in advance, I assure you it will be much earlier than the last elections and we will do everything for the best candidacies ," said Berisha.
While the SP has the name of Ogerta Manastirliu as a candidate for the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Braçe has also expressed his desire to run, whom Berisha describes as "a representative of a party that has disappeared without a trace."
"He is, or is held up as a socialist, as a representative of a party that has disappeared without a trace. But it has not disappeared, but has taken on a new form, because this party was born in crime."
"So it's better not to comment on their problems. The DP will offer the citizens of Tirana the most excellent candidacy, it will do everything to form a broader front with the entire opposition," Berisha said.
