Miroslav Lajčak's games regarding the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia have irritated the MEPs. Kosovo is facing an extraordinary pressure and for the EP deputies, the emissary of the dialogue has been shown to be one-sided.
The party that showed criticism was the German MEP, Michael Gahler. During a discussion in Brussels, he said that Lajcak is more on the side of the aggressor, specifically Serbia, than Kosovo, which according to him is a country that has made progress and whose policy is 100% with the EU.
" I have followed your activity since the time you took office. I see you more on the side of the aggressor, not the victim in the relationship between Serbia and Kosovo. Do you feel the faith of Serbs and Kosovars? What I don't know, Mr. Lajcak, is your reaction to the Serbian president and his government. Shouldn't you have publicly criticized Vučić as well? Shouldn't the EU have stopped or threatened to cut financial aid?
Shouldn't you turn to Serbian nationalism, which is the main cause of insecurity and fear throughout the Western Balkans? "Kosovo is open to a balanced solution with Serbia, but it is looking for honest mediators who do not 'soften' the Serbian president ," he said.
The Dutchman Thijs Reuten and the Austrian, Thomas Waitz, were on the same line with him. Both MPs criticized the approach to dialogue, saying that pressure and demands are being made only to Kosovo, but not to Serbia.
Reuten asked for an explanation why the demands are being made only to Kosovo and why there has never been a balanced view, reports Telegrafi. He also demanded to know why the European Union did not call for the immediate and unconditional release of the policemen.
While Thomas Waitz asked Lajcak how a successful agreement can be considered when it is not signed by both parties.
" Where are you actually seeing any success in your work in the last four years ," he asked. The Austrian MEP further said that in the communication that is being made, it seems as if the aggression is coming from the side of Kosovo, while in fact, according to him, mercenaries from Serbia have attacked KFOR soldiers.
" A bully is always a bully. And I don't know, I mean, you also listed all the demands you have for Kosovo on what to do, and then you said: the Serbs should do it too. You didn't even mention a single point about what they actually have to deliver ," Waitz said.
