The Republic of Kosovo has received another official recognition on the international stage. The Bahamas has recognized Kosovo's independence, becoming the 121st country to recognize the newest state in Europe as an independent and sovereign state.
The news was announced by President Vjosa Osmani through a Facebook post, where she said that the recognition agreement was reached in the Bahamas' capital, Nassau. "Another historic decision for our country," Osmani wrote, emphasizing the importance of this step for the international consolidation of the state of Kosovo.
The agreement on recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations was signed in the presence of representatives of both countries, including the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Davis. With this act, the two countries formalize the opening of a new chapter of bilateral cooperation.
The joint statement emphasizes that diplomatic relations are established in accordance with international law and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The parties reaffirm their commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty, equality of states and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
Kosovo and the Bahamas have expressed their willingness to deepen cooperation in areas of common interest, such as trade, tourism, education, culture, technology and innovation. This recognition comes at a critical moment for Kosovo's foreign policy, which aims to strengthen its international position and increase the number of global recognitions.
