The acting Minister of Internal Affairs in Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, announced yesterday evening that a large-scale operation against abuse of official duty and corruption has been successfully finalized, after a months-long investigation conducted by the Kosovo Police and relevant institutions.
According to Sveçla, the operation was based on information provided by the Kosovo Intelligence Agency and led to the arrest of several senior public officials suspected of involvement in illegal actions related to the expropriation of private property. Including a former minister.
Sveçla emphasizes that the arrested have acted as an organized criminal group, abusing their official positions and causing significant damage to the Kosovo budget. He writes that the political will to combat these cases is yielding concrete results.
"The operation against abuse of official duty and corruption is successfully finalized. Based on data provided by the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, after a months-long investigation conducted by the Kosovo Police and other relevant institutions, several senior officials in institutions, suspected of abuse of official duty and corruption, related to the process of expropriation of private properties, have been arrested today."
In this case, several senior public officials and responsible persons are involved, including: the head of the Graçanica Court branch, JM; officials from the law firm NK, MD and BD; court expert Sh. T.; official at the Department of Expropriations; ATK official GL as well as the former Minister of Trade and Industry, FI
According to suspicions, the aforementioned persons have acted as an organized criminal group, abusing their official positions and causing considerable damage to the budget of the Republic of Kosovo.
This group is suspected of having, through corruption and abuse of official position, initiated and filed cases at the Gracanica Court with the aim of illegally compensating for expropriations carried out during 2011–2015, illegally benefiting from public funds.
The time when public officials misused the budget of the Republic of Kosovo with impunity is over.
I congratulate the institutions for this next success in the uncompromising fight against abuse of official duty and corruption.
"The political will to combat negative phenomena, inter-institutional and civic cooperation are yielding concrete results for the construction of a legal state, developed and inviolable from any form of crime in our country ," writes Sveçla.
