The United States Embassy in Kosovo said that the decision of the local authorities in North Mitrovica to remove the Serbian institutions from the municipal building in the Bosniak Quarter was not taken in coordination with the international community, nor in accordance with its demands for non-action that can escalate the situation.
"We assess that these actions, which have not been coordinated with the international community, are contrary to our demands to avoid actions that may escalate tensions, or may be perceived as escalating".
Even the EU has expressed concern about this latest decision by the municipality led by Erden Atiq, who justified it with "some anticipated works that the municipality will carry out in certain municipal facilities".
While the spokesperson of the European Union, Peter Stano, has said that this latest decision is an implication of the current situation in the north.
"We are concerned about the implications for the security situation of the recent decisions taken by the administration of the municipality of North Mitrovica for the use of public and municipal spaces and buildings, which, among other things, require Serbian-run entities to vacate the facilities theirs, if they do not provide the required documentation within a short period of time. This decision contradicts the ongoing efforts to de-escalate the tensions between Kosovo and Serbia", said Stano.
But Fatir Berzati, director of the inspectorate in the municipality of northern Mitrovica, says that the removal of Serbian institutions from the municipal building is a matter for the local authorities. According to him, in this case, coordination with the central level is not necessary.
“Kjo është ceshtje lokale, është pronë lokale nuk kemi pse të koordinihemi për këtë ceshtje sepse është cështje lokale. Analisti Branilav Krstiq, e cilëson të duhur vendimin për largimin e inistucioneve serbe nga ndërtesa komunale. Sipas tij, deklaratat e Listës Serbe pas këtij vendimi, kanë për qëllim destabilizimin e situatës.

Jo, sepse ata kanë qenë shume të zënë me plaqkitjet dhe ne atë mënyrë me tradhtu interesat e nënshtetasve të veriut, kosovarëve me nacionalitet serb. Ne i kemi deklaratat nga ana e Beogradit zyrtar që janë që forcat janë më te forta se e drejta dhe marrëveshjet. Në qofse i analizojme gjerat, më duket qe edhe shteti ynë nuk ka pritur kur formohet Asociacioni, një lloj vetëmenxhimi për serbët në vendin e Kosovës, dhe krejt ata institucionet paralele do të ketë brenda Asociacionin. Por ne e dimë që nga na e administratës amerikane dhe Brukselit zyrtar na vijnë mesazhet që është peridha për deeskalim te situatës.”
In the disputed building are located four institutions that are financed by the Government of Serbia: the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, the Center for Social Work from Vushtrri and the Administrative District of Mitrovica of Kosovo.
