The EU "freezes" meetings with Albin Kurti

The European Union has decided to temporarily suspend meetings with the acting Prime Minister and ministers of the Government of Kosovo, until a new government with a full mandate is formed. The decision was communicated in an official letter from the EU office in Pristina addressed to Kosovo institutions.

According to the announcement, this step is taken “in the interest of institutional stability and respect for the rule of law” and is in line with the decision of the Supreme Court of Kosovo. For this reason, senior representatives of member states and EU institutions will not hold meetings inside the Government building until the new cabinet is formed.

"This decision reaffirms our principled commitment to the rule of law, democratic accountability and institutional integrity," the EU letter states.

This position of Brussels is seen as a clear message about respecting the constitutional order and democratic rules in Kosovo, in a period of political transition, until the formation of a government with a full mandate.
