Former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic said that Serbia should accept the reality of Kosovo and assist its membership in international organizations, including the Council of Europe and Interpol.
In an interview with the Montenegrin newspaper Pobjeda, Drashkovic said that he was the only voice in Serbia to publicly defend this position, challenging official narratives and nationalist rhetoric.
"I have demanded that Kosovo be admitted to the Council of Europe and Interpol, and that Serbia join NATO ," he declared, emphasizing that without an honest confrontation with the past and without recognizing the truth about Kosovo, Serbia cannot move forward towards Western integration.
Draskovic said that in the early 2010s he had believed that the current president, Aleksandar Vučić, would lead Serbia towards Europeanization and normalization of relations with Kosovo.
He recalled Vučić's article published in Danas, where the latter admitted that "the politics of the '90s were wrong and blind." According to the former minister, he had believed in a sincere turnaround back then.
"I supported the 2013 Brussels agreement to normalize relations with Kosovo. But the efforts were sabotaged by the opposition and the Serbian Orthodox Church ," Draskovic said.
He said that three Church bishops had organized a memorial ceremony for the living signatories of the agreement, while the opposition had politically attacked Vucic instead of supporting him.
The former minister said that he has long warned that the path Serbia has chosen is dangerous and based on deception.
"I have warned Vučić not to deceive the people with roads, hospitals and schools, because we do not live only on bread, but also on breath," he said, adding that Serbia is experiencing a deep moral and cultural decline.
Finally, Draskovic harshly criticized the rhetoric towards citizens protesting in Serbia, saying that "from the mouth of the president himself to his associates, we hear that the citizens who protest are Ustashas, Nazis, trash, foreign spies. This is the greatest downfall of Serbia."
For Drašković, Serbia's progress goes through recognizing the truth about Kosovo and accepting the Euro-Atlantic path.
