Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti spoke after a meeting with the leaders of political parties, called by him to discuss the constitution of the Assembly.
This meeting ended without any agreement or concrete move towards resolving the political crisis. The meeting was held after the Constitutional Court ruling, which obliges the deputies to complete the constitution process by July 26. On the other hand, the participants from the opposition considered the meeting unsuccessful.
Kurti said that the meeting was good and that according to him many things were clarified. Kurti said that he won the elections on February 9, while adding that the people had demanded that the opposition be changed. Prime Minister Kurti accuses LDK and PDK of not wanting compromise.
"I have obtained the largest parliamentary majority in Kosovo. The meeting was good, some things were clarified between us. On the other hand, we gave in, but they do not want to compromise. LDK and PDK are misinterpreting what the Constitutional Court said. We are not blocking, we offered a compromise ," Kurti said.
The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, stated that despite their willingness to contribute to resolving the impasse, the outcome of the meeting was disappointing. He called the meeting a "political stunt."
"We participated with the best will to find a solution, although at the same time with the greatest shame that this entire meeting was more of a public farce than a substantial one. Unfortunately, our shame was confirmed. Insisting on previous positions makes it impossible to move from this situation. Kurti showed irresponsibility," Abdixhiku said.
In a similar vein was the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi, who said that the meeting was a "political farce", accusing Kurti of a lack of sincerity and real effort to reach consensus.
"Despite the fact that the situation is not the same after the verdict, Kurti is the same, and his positions are the same," Krasniqi said.
Meanwhile, the Assembly remains incomplete due to the lack of agreement on the election of the Speaker of the Assembly and the five Deputy Speakers. The most contentious point of disagreement remains Vetëvendosje’s proposal to switch from open to secret ballot – a demand that has been opposed by opposition parties and widely seen as unconstitutional.
Following the recent ruling, political parties have interpreted the Constitutional Court's decision in different ways.
