The United States has sent another message to Serbia about the military presence on the border with Kosovo. A few days ago, it was the White House that sounded the alarm, as DASH spokesman Matthew Miller spoke today.
He hinted that he does not trust Belgrade's positions, saying that there is still no confirmation of the withdrawal of the army from the border.
" We have seen reports that Serbia has withdrawn military and personal equipment from the border. We have not verified them independently and we will, but if it is true, it would be a welcome step ," he said.
He further added: " We continue to be concerned about the cycle of increasing tensions and sporadic violence in the north of Kosovo and we encourage both sides to return to the dialogue facilitated by the EU" .
On Friday, the coordinator for strategic communications at the US National Security Council, John Kirby, expressed Washington's concern about what he called the "large deployment" of Serbian troops along the border with Kosovo.
" We will monitor the large Serbian deployment along the border with Kosovo. We call on Serbia to withdraw its forces from the border and continue to reduce tensions ," Kirby said during a conversation with reporters on September 29.
Kirby was asked if this buildup of military troops near the border is a signal that Serbia is preparing for a military invasion.
"We are looking at it, we are observing it. But I can't say the purpose now", he said. However, Kirby said the "enormity" of the massed bodies is destabilizing.
Serbian army chief of staff General Milan Mojsilovic told reporters in Belgrade on Monday that troops along the border with Kosovo had been cut from 8,350 to 4,500 and expressed surprise at the "deep concern of some", referring to the US.
