The ambassador of Great Britain in Serbia, Edward Ferguson, has spoken about the terrorist attack of September 24 in Banjska i Zvecani, for which he said that many questions are still unanswered.
Ferguson said some of the questions that still remain unanswered are who the attackers were, how they got in with such an arsenal of weapons and what they planned to do.
" It is extremely important that Serbia now contributes to a full investigation and bringing those responsible to justice. I understand that emotions are running high on all sides, but what we desperately need now is responsibility and restraint ," Ferguson said.
" There is no justification for the attacks on the police that took place on Sunday. At the same time, we must admit that this did not happen in a vacuum, but in the context of increased tensions on the ground, all due to serial failures to achieve progress in the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina," Ferguson told the medium . He said that the dialogue under the patronage of the EU is the key place where disputes between Kosovo and Serbia should be resolved.
" The unresolved tensions between Belgrade and Pristina are, of all the issues, perhaps the biggest obstacle to the economic development of this region. We can all see the consequences in the form of large numbers of young people going abroad. What the events of the past weekend have shown is that this is not only an important issue, but also an urgent one. For this reason, we call on President Vucic and Prime Minister Kurti to return to dialogue in the spirit of compromise and in the interest of all people in this region and beyond in Europe ," he said.
