Today at 09:00, the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the president of Serbia will have bilateral meetings with the EU's chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, and the EU's special emissary for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak.
According to the agenda made public by the EU yesterday, the bilateral meetings will be followed by the joint meeting of Borrell, Lajçak, Kurti and Vucic.
After these meetings, there will also be a statement for the media by the High Representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, who will reveal details about the meeting.
This is the first time that Kurti and Vucic have met since May 2 and the first since the escalation of the situation in the north of the country.
After the outbreak of tensions in the north of the country, no high-level meetings were held, except for technical ones.
Yesterday, a day before the "big" meeting, the great expectations were lowered. Kurti has criticized the EU for unfair sanctions, the US and the EU have warned of new measures if there is no progress in the dialogue and if the parties are not held accountable.
What is expected from the September 14 meeting?
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, on the eve of the September 14 meeting in Brussels, gave a long interview to the well-known German medium "Duetche Ëelle".
Kurti spoke about many topics for Dċ, including the dialogue with Serbia, the next meeting in Brussels and EU measures. In the long interview, Kurti estimated that EU measures are harming Kosovo.
Further, the head of the executive assessed that the EU has damaged the dialogue with the punitive measures against Kosovo.
" These are sanctions that are harming us, they are harming us in terms of the Stabilization and Association agreement, they are harming us in terms of loans and grants and they are harming us in terms of high-level meetings. Guess what, my minister Nenad Rasic has had his meeting in Brussels cancelled. He is a Serb from Kosovo, a minister in my government for the field of communities and returns. However, they did not call them sanctions, but they called them measures so that they are not forced to vote in the European Union. If they were put to a vote, I am convinced that the vast majority of states would not be in favor, but they used a method of silent consensus with an email that was sent from Brussels and they put the measures in place for us. " - emphasized Kurti.
" The table in Brussels has been damaged in this way and the dialogue has been damaged with these measures, and I believe that the sooner they are removed, the better for the European Union, which presents values, and for Kosovo, which needs development. " – added Kurti
Meanwhile, the American emissary for the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Gabriel Escobar, like a few days ago the French president, Emanuel Macron, has warned the two countries that there will be consequences if they do not make progress in the dialogue.
Escobar for the Voice of America, has mentioned as punitive measures against Kosovo, the issue of new recognitions, donor conference, strategic dialogue with the USA, and closer relations with NATO.
Paralajmërimi i presidentit Macron
Two weeks ago, the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, in his speech before the ambassadors, while talking about the relations between Kosovo and Serbia, warned of measures against the parties if they do not act responsibly.
The French president has mentioned the issue of visas and other economic issues as commitments that could be revised if the parties do not behave responsibly.
"We expect that peace will return to this part. France and Germany have made commitments regarding visa policies and other economic issues, which will be reviewed if the parties fail to behave responsibly. We must be particularly vigilant in this regard, especially when it comes to stability in the Western Balkans." - said Macron.
