A year ago today, the monastery of Banjska in the north of Kosovo fell prey to a terrorist attack. Police sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed in this attack. To talk about this event, Kosovo's Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla was invited to an interview for Euronews Albania this Tuesday.
He said that if the situation had not been faced from the beginning with such speed and professionalism and courage, as the late Afrim Bunjaku and other policemen faced it, the situation could have led Kosovo to a frontal war with Serbia.
"If it wasn't for the resistance of the first police patrol. The appropriate reaction of Sergeant Afrim Bunjak with the policemen of the police station of Zveçan and the patrol of the rapid intervention unit of the border department, until they joined other units of the Kosovo police. If it were not for this courage and willingness, the situation would have been completely different. We know that the plan of this terrorist group was to invade 16% of the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. This would lead to an all-out war between Kosovo and Serbia.
We definitely would not agree with a result where the territorial integrity of Kosovo was violated. The quick, proper, professional reaction of Afrim Bunjak, his friends, and every police member who was involved in this action, has prevented a large-scale conflict. We have also caused great losses to this terrorist group, as well as the dreams of terrorists who want to attack Kosovo", said Sveçla.
He said that after this event, Kosovo has taken measures that in case such actions are repeated, the KSF will be able to act efficiently. The Minister of the Interior of Kosovo also said that the indictment filed in relation to the attack in Banjska, in addition to being incomplete, also has many deficiencies. He said that the prosecution was aware of the facts that senior Serbian officials were involved in the terrorist attack in Banjska, but chose not to include them in the indictment.
"It is a pity that the indictment filed by the prosecution does not include the commander and deputy commander of this organization and why not the commander of the Serbian army who not only armed this terrorist group, but also trained them to attack Kosovo The indictment, except for the late one, should include all those who participated in this terrorist attack. We have evidence that high officials of Serbia are involved in this terrorist attack," said Svečla.
