Memli Krasniqi has resigned as leader of the PDK. Earlier, Krasniqi announced a press conference after the regular meeting of the Party Presidency.
Media reports that this decision comes as a result of PDK's failure to achieve its objectives in the recent local elections.
This action will pave the way for holding a new PDK electoral convention.
In the local elections, the PDK won six municipalities: Prizren, Ferizaj, Skenderaj, Vushtrri, Kaçanik, Hani and Elzeti. In these elections, the PDK lost Drenas and Mitrovica.
On July 3, 2021, Memli Krasniqi was elected the new leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
Krasniqi was elected to this position by a majority of PDK delegates. At the party's electoral convention, he received 469 votes. Only 7 votes were against.
Memli Krasniqi was the only candidate in this race as no other PDK member had submitted a candidacy for chairman of this political entity.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo was left without a leader on November 5, 2020, when Kadri Veseli resigned from the party leadership after the Kosovo Specialist Chambers confirmed his indictment.
Before resigning, Kadri Veseli had appointed Enver Hoxhaj as acting party leader.
