Trial of former KLA leaders, Ambassador Hill continues testimony: Thaçi

The trial of former KLA leaders continues in The Hague. Christopher Hill, the special envoy of the United States of America during the war in Kosovo, continued his testimony in The Hague today.

Questioned by Hashim Thaçi's lawyer, Lluka Misetic, Hill said that there is no reason to believe that the former president of Kosovo is involved in the activities for which he is accused.

"I have no reason to believe, nor did I hear at the time, that he had ordered any illegal activities, and as I understand it, he was held in custody for a period of time in connection with these matters. So I felt, when this was asked of me, after people contacted me, that I should say what I knew about the situation,"  Hill said.

Hill said there have been constant delays by the Kosovo Liberation Army in responding to various issues because there has been no responsible person within the group.

"Disagreements among Albanians were not my concern. My concern was to implement American policy and find a way for Belgrade, and various groups in Kosovo, to find an understanding and end the conflict," the former American official declared.

We recall that a day ago, Hill stated that during his first meeting with Hashim Thaçi, he was given the impression that he did not lead the Kosovo Liberation Army. Hill also pointed out that Thaçi lacked the authority to immediately accept the Rambouillet agreement, as the document lacked the term "Kosovo independence."

"Thaci told me that if I accepted, I would be killed as soon as I returned to Kosovo. I didn't ask him how or by whom I would be killed, but I simply understood that he was in no position to say yes," Hill stated.

Hill was also asked about the meeting held in Kosovo with KLA representatives before the signing of the Rambouillet agreement, in an attempt to convince the parties to accept it. He added that he did not believe that a KLA headquarters existed.
