The US Department of State has officially confirmed the agreement with the Republic of Kosovo for the temporary admission of 50 immigrants from third countries who are in the process of being deported from the United States.
In a statement to CBS News, the State Department praised the cooperation with Kosovo, describing this agreement as a concrete step in realizing the Trump administration's priorities in the fight against illegal immigration.
" We welcome cooperation on this key priority of the Trump Administration. We are grateful to our partner, Kosovo, for accepting third-country nationals who have fled the United States and facilitating their safe return to their countries of origin ," the State Department spokesperson stated.
According to the agreement, the migrants will be temporarily settled in Kosovo until their repatriation to their respective countries is ensured. Pristina authorities will have the right to select individuals from the proposed list, in accordance with public order and security criteria.
Kosovo, which considers the US its closest international ally, has previously agreed to host Afghan refugees in 2021 and has repeatedly shown willingness to contribute to global solutions to the migration crisis.
