Kosovo publishes the results of the census

Kosovo has a population of 1,586,659 residents. Of them, 795,046 are men and 791,614 are women.

This figure does not include the diaspora.

The Statistics Agency published the preliminary data for the Census of Population, Households and Housing in Kosovo. While the final results are expected to be published in December 2024 and are not expected to differ much from the preliminary data, and from the experiences of other countries, the difference is between 1-3%.

Prishtina is the municipality where the highest number of citizens is concentrated, followed by Prizren and Ferizaj.

The average age of the population in 2011 was 29.97 years, while in 2024 the average age is 34.82 years, an increase of 4.85 years. Although Kosovo is expected to have the youngest age in Europe again.

As for gender, there is almost perfect equality. Men dominate with a very small percentage compared to 2011. But this year the result is that 50.1% are men while 49.90 are women.

In the four northern municipalities of Kosovo, Leposaviq, Zubin Potok, North Mitrovica and Zvecan, there was a large boycott of the process.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti was also present at this ceremony, who stated that the population census was one of the most priority projects of his government for this year.

He said that the registration is a commitment to address the needs of all citizens and for the fair distribution of investments.

The population census lasted 7 weeks from April 5 to May 24, 2024. While for the diaspora, the census continues until the end of August. This is the second registration after the declaration of independence.
