All sanctions on Kosovo are lifted, Rama "ruins" Osmani's
 Vjosa Osmani and Edi Rama

All sanctions imposed by the EU on Kosovo will be lifted starting in January.

This news was announced by the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, who participated in the EU-Western Balkans summit in Brussels.

"We have excellent news for Kosovo. At the end of the summit and after discussions, the decision was made to lift all measures on Kosovo, with a large part being lifted today and a part at the end of January," Osmani announced.

But as she was sharing this news from Brussels with her followers on social media, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama suddenly appeared in the video.

He congratulated Osman for the work done to lift the measures.

"This, this woman, has been extraordinary... I must tell the truth," Rama said, among other things, alongside a hug he gave Osman.

"This woman has been extraordinary today, she has unblocked all the funds. Let her say we have news, there is this news and it is her merit. You know that I don't like you, but we have to tell the truth," Rama said.

The EU imposed punitive measures against Kosovo in 2023 - following rising tensions in the north of the country. The European Union's High Representative, Kaja Kallas, said at the time that the closure of parallel Serbian institutions in northern Kosovo by Kosovo authorities was "undermining" efforts to de-escalate the situation.

How much has Kosovo been damaged by the measures?

According to an analysis by the Institute for Advanced Studies - GAP, EU measures have cost Kosovo around 613.4 million euros in suspended or indefinitely postponed projects. Due to missed deadlines, 7.1 million euros have been lost entirely.

The most affected sectors include the environment, with 350 million euros, energy with 114 million euros, digitalization with around 57 million euros, and culture with 15 million euros.

Of these funds, around 218 million euros were for projects under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II and IPA III), and around 395 million euros for projects under the European Union Investment Framework for the Western Balkans region (WBIF).
