Kurti established: Kosovo does not accept the Association as a condition for

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has emphasized that he will not accept the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority as a condition for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe (CoE).

During the Government meeting in Pristina, Kurti said that Kosovo is facing "a new condition, which has nothing to do with membership" in the Council of Europe.

"In these last weeks, we were faced with a new condition that has nothing to do with the membership standards in KiE. We heard that there are capitals that are conditioning the finalization of the membership process with sending a document to the Constitutional Court of Kosovo", said Kurti.

Kurti stated that they requested that the draft statute become part of the package of the Brussels basic agreement and the Ohrid implementation annex and be signed to become legally binding and enforceable, but that was rejected by Serbia.

"This document brought by Lajçak and the emissaries of QUINT was not accepted on October 26 of last year. Kosovo has offered to become part of the basic agreement and sign it to make it legally enforceable, but it was rejected by Serbia. If the agreement package was accepted and signed in Brussels on October 26, 2023, only then could it be sent to the Constitutional Court of Kosovo.

The draft charter of Lajçak and the QUINTI envoys failed to materialize and was rejected. The Government of Kosovo cannot send documents that have not been accepted and are not official to the Constitutional Court. This request to us was and remains absurd",  continued Kurti.

Kosovo applied in 2022 to join the Council of Europe and, last month, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe recommended that Kosovo be admitted to the organization. KiE - leader in Europe for human rights can vote for the admission of Kosovo on May 16.
