The Ambassador of the United States in Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, has stated that after the attack on the Kosovo Police in the village of Banjské in Zveçan on September 24, 2023, where the officer Afrim Bunjaku was killed, there may be some structures and considerable support.
In an interview with the BBC, Havonier emphasized that the high quantity and unusual caliber of the weapons found show that "the ethnic Serb attackers did not provide them themselves."
" Now, also, we know that an individual who was the vice president of one of the Serbian parties in Kosovo, who is known to have participated in events with high-ranking Serbian officials, announced through his lawyer that he was the organizer of this event and that he was present ", said Hovenier referring to Millan Radoicic, the current vice-president of Lista Serbe - the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo.
Among other things, the American diplomat has emphasized that the USA, in cooperation with the Kosovo authorities and not alone, is working to discover the organizer of the Serbian terrorist act in Zveçan.
" So we're still working to find out who exactly was responsible. But now we know more about it and we are concerned about what happened ," Hovenier declared.
The attack in Banjskéka happened on the night between September 23 and 24, when armed groups attacked the Kosovo police, killing Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku. The responsibility for the organization of the attack was taken by Millan Radoicic, former vice-president of Lista Serbe, the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo.
The Minister of the Interior of Kosovo, Xelal Svecla, has said that Radoicic did not act alone, but supported by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic. The latter has denied the involvement of the Serbian state in the attack in Banjska.
Svečla said that in one of the dozens of cars seized in Banjska "Russian materials were found". According to him, two four-wheel motors for difficult terrains, manufactured in Russia, were also found.
" There is also intelligence information about the involvement of elements that are directly connected to Russia. We are continuously working to identify all these terrorists... I believe that very soon, our specialized units of the Kosovo Police, but also of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, in cooperation with our allies, will identify them . We are witnessing that in Nis [Serbia] there is a Russian humanitarian intelligence center, which is known worldwide to be an intelligence center, through which they spy on the whole region and in which there are also various exercises - either for intelligence or for actions on the ground... and we believe that this center is also involved in this attack ", Sveçla said.
